Eeyore

Life is full of twisted and winded road.  But I will be fine because if I am a cartoon character, I am probably best potray myself as Eeyore.

Eeyore is this a pessimistic, gloomy, old, depressed, grey stuffed donkey who is a friend of Winnie-the-Pooh.He goes about with a pessimistic attitude, never really seeing the bright side. However, he is never unwilling to help and he takes life almost stoically in stride.

Eeyore might be a believer in Stoicm principle.  It's a principle that that I have try to uphold in my life.  Here is a quote on the ideology of Stoicm.

"In the life of the individual man, virtue is the sole good; such things as health, happiness, possessions, are of no account. Since virtue resides in the will, everything really good or bad in a man's life depends only upon himself. He may become poor, but what of it? He can still be virtuous. A tyrant may put him in prison, but he can still persevere in living in harmony with Nature. He may be sentenced to death, but he can die nobly, like Socrates. Therefore every man has perfect freedom, provided he emancipates himself from mundane desires."

In layman term, A Stoic of virtue believe in "to be free from anger, envy, and jealousy".

No matter how bad the world is treating you, you will still able to accept it and be happy. Hence, sick and yet happy, in peril and yet happy, dying and yet happy, in exile and happy, in disgrace and happy.

Crossing Path

Posted by khing at 06:54 PM on June 25, 2008.

Crossing Path

In my life, I have crossed path with numerous people, some intentionally while others by chance.  Here are just some more noticeable people that I met before and which I can currently recall while entering this blog:

1. Boyzone (Ronan Keating & the rest of the group) on a plane to Ireland.

2. Boris Becker (most famous for the 5 minutes closet incident, tennis player) at Wimbeldon.

3. Savage Garden at Savage Garden concert in Manchester.

4. Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz and ET’s little gal (cannot remember name) at Charlie’s Angel movie premiere at Leicester Square.

5. Vanessa May at a Chinese Restaurant at Bayswater.

6. Countless of Mediacorp artists, bound to bump into them with endless filming in shopping centre and on the street (I prefer production by NTV7 and Channel 8 (Malaysian channel)).

7. Jay Chou!!!! (Jay Chou Concert)

8. Etc…… ( various ministers, son of current malaysian deputy pm, diplomat, and not less daughter of French and Yugoslavia mafia (or so call claimed to be) and most recently.

9. Prime minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong ( Opening Ceremony of Singapore International Water Week)

Here are just some sight and seeing of the SIWW:

2. Opening Ceremony.  I have to wake up early for this, just to have a chance to get a glimpse of the prime minister.

Dr Andrew Benedek

3.  Recipient of Lee Kuan Yew's water prize award, Dr Andrew Benelek.  Pioneer in MBR technology for wastewater and RO for desalination.  I was working on summarizing the ZeeWeed (Trademark) Membrane two weeks ago, so got quite excited to see the man behind this product.

Lego set

4.  Hahaha, I can compete with my nephew with his collections of Lego Set.

Future landscape of singapore

5.  Future of Marina Bay, overlooking the Integrated Resort.

Reflection by Keppel Bay

6.  Gotham City, actually is the Reflection by Keppel Bay, I am looking forwards to see the actual thing in the future.

7.  Life is not all play and no work, my 1st poster presentation.

I am very lucky to have a chance to attend the SIWW.  I find conference attendance quite taxing, so looking forward to be back to office very soon.

Invictus

Untitled

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be,
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of Circumstance,
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of Chance,
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears,
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years,
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
